Acworth Police Help Catch Two-State Robbery Suspects

A pair of robbers who started their criminal campaign in Missouri were stopped by the Acworth Police Department and the Cobb County Police Department.

The Acworth Police Department teamed up with county law enforcement to stop a two-state crime spree that had spread to The Lake City.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, it all began on July 1 at about 1 a.m., when a man reported his 1997 GMC truck was stolen at gunpoint off of Cherokee Street.

The next sign of trouble came when a suspicious vehicle was reported on Collins Circle, which is located off of Highway 92. Nearby, a Volkswagen Beetle was discovered that was missing its license plate.

Officers ran the VIN of the Beetle and discovered it had been reported stolen in Missouri. Further complicating matters, reports came in later that day that the license plate of the GMC truck stolen in Acworth had been found in a trash can.

The stolen truck was eventually discovered outside Acworth, and police had learned the names of two people who might be responsible for the crimes. 17-year-old Cody Gains of House Springs, MO, and an unidentified 16-year-old.

Sheriff's deputies in the Show Me State showed the Acworth and Cobb County police that the pair had been suspected of stealing the Volkswagen from Missouri the previous week. Moreover, police discovered evidence that tied the two suspects to the armed robbery which occurred in Acworth.

Both Gains and his underage compatriot were arrested and charged with armed robbery and theft by receiving stolen property. It is unclear whether or not they have been extradited to Missouri, or if they will be.
