Acworth Teen Survives Head-On Crash

But a 24-year-old man from Marietta died from the collision in Woodstock Wednesday afternoon.

The teen, 19-year-old Giovanni Aragon-Mercado, by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. .

A 24-year-old motorcyclist died in a head-on collision on Bascomb Carmel Road in Woodstock Wednesday afternoon.   

Derrick Ferree of Marietta collided with Giovanni Aragon-Mercado, 19, of Acworth who was driving a Lincoln Navigator and suffered no injuries near Bascomb Springs at approximately 5 p.m., said Lt. Jay Baker of the .

"It appears Mercado fell asleep at the wheel," Baker said. The preliminary findings show his SUV crossed the center and struck the motorcycle.

Baker also said there was no evidence at the scene to suggest Mercado was impaired.

Ferree was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta where he later died from his injuries.

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the accident. No charges have been filed at this time but are forthcoming.

This boy was probabily texting and lied about falling asleep. Who would fall asleep at 5pm going to work I am glad he does not work for me. Alot of People need to learn to drive again motorcycles have no protection people start looking twice or even three times stop hitting motorcycles. This boy needs to learn that driving is a prevliage and should not be a death sentence also his mother. He killed this young man because of lack of parenting.
