Acworth Woman Pulled From Allatoona in Critical Condition

Debra Hansard of Acworth is still at an area hospital after she was found unresponsive in Lake Allatoona.

An Acworth woman remains in the hospital after she was found unresponsive in Lake Allatoona Tuesday afternoon.

Debra Hansard, 46, is still in critical, but stable condition at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, said Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.

Hansard was rushed to the Marietta hospital Tuesday afternoon after she was discovered floating in the lake in an area along McCurley Road in the southwest part of the county.

She was swimming in the lake with friends when her friends noticed her not responding.

Hansard was pulled from the lake by friends and was receiving CPR by the time first responders from Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services arrived onto the scene.

Cherokee Fire Spokesperson Tim Cavender said the area was "difficult" to get into due to the gate being locked and a vehicle blocking the entrance point, so they had to send in one of their boats as part of the rescue effort.
