The medical examiner at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab has determined the cause of death for a six-year-old boy whose body was found in Lake Allatoona.

An autopsy performed Saturday on Corday Dimilo Duffy, 6, of College Park concluded the child died as a result of drowning, according to a press release from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.

However, spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said the case remains opens and under investigation.

Corday's body recovered about 30 feet from shore in roughly five feet of water early Saturday morning.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office on Friday initially responded to a missing child call at Sweetwater Campground, located off Highway 20 west of Canton.

Corday was at the campsite with his grandmother, aunt, siblings and cousin, Baker added.

The child was seen last seen in the family tent around 7:15 p.m. Friday. The sheriff's office spokesman said there was a large log leading from shore into the water near where the child's body was located.

"It appears he may have walked out on the log and then fell in water just over his head," Baker said.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Georgia State Patrol and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services all assisted in the search.

Additionally, the fire department’s Search and Rescue Team and its Dive Team combed the lake's waters as part of their search efforts.
