UPDATE: Water Spew Causes Traffic Delays, $15,000 in Damage

A fire hydrant on Cobb Parkway was hit this morning, resulting in several traffic delays and inventory damage to a convenient store.

The water spew from this morning may have caused thousands of dollars in damage to a nearby convenience store.

Riz Alwani, store manager at , where the incident occurred, said the store lost an estimated $15,000 worth of inventory.

"A lot of things were damaged, beer, drinksβ€”we lost all kinds of things," Alwani said.

Crews are still working on repairing the hydrant and said they're not sure what exactly caused the spew.

"We think it's probably from a car accident, but we're not sure," one of the crew members said. "We should be done with our work here in about 30 minutes."

A car hit a fire hydrant this morning on Cobb Parkway in , causing the hydrant to spew water, according to 11Alive.

The TV station reports that the accident occurred just after 7 a.m. in the 4300 block of Cobb Parkway.

Crews were able to stop the water about 7:45 a.m., and no customers were affected, according to the Cobb County Water System.

The incident did cause several traffic delays, 11Alive says.
