Cobb Man Gets 10 Years in Domestic Case
Roosevelt Woods pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an attack on his wife that occurred in the pre-dawn hours of Christmas Eve 2012.
Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds announced Wednesday that a man with a history of domestic-violence arrests pleaded guilty today and was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison.
Just before closing arguments in his jury trial, Roosevelt Woods, 44, of Marietta, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an attack on his wife that occurred in the pre-dawn hours of Christmas Eve 2012 at a Fairground Street apartment.
“The perpetrators of crimes of domestic violence often think that they can escape responsibility by manipulating their victims into recanting or abandoning the prosecution of these crimes. What this defendant found out is that we are going to stand up for those victims, even when they cannot stand up for themselves,” Assistant District Attorney Hannah Palmquist said in a release.
After accepting the non-negotiated plea, Cobb Superior Court Judge James G. Bodiford sentenced Woods to 20 years, with 10 years to serve in custody and the rest on probation.
