Cops: Acworth Man Impersonates Member of Military

That caused the officer to issue a court summons to the actual owner of the military ID card.

A suspected drunk driver from Acworth who was pulled over early Saturday for speeding along Interstate 75 North and South Marietta Parkway presented someone else's military card as his identification.

Trenton Thornton was behind the wheel of a black Chevrolet Impala that was travelling 50 m.p.h. in a 35 m.p.h. zone, according to a Cobb County criminal warrant. His blood alcohol content level was 0.120. The legal limit is 0.08.

When asked for identification, Thornton allegedly presented a military card bearing the name of another person.

The card "prominently displays the US seal and is entitled 'United States Uniformed Services' at the top of the card," a Marietta police officer wrote in the warrant.

Thorton allegedly signed the citation using the other man's name, the officer wrote in the warrant.

That caused the officer to issue a court summons to the actual owner of the ID card.

Thornton's license is suspended on a failure to appear charge from Sept. 1, 2010, records show.

He was arrested on charges that include speeding, driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence of alcohol, identity fraud, forgery in the second degree and possession of a fraudulent sealed ID. He is being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond. He also has a hold out of Cherokee County on his release.
