Acworth resident Matt Dyas, 20, played golf for the Wolves.

alumnus Matt Dyas of Acworth was killed Saturday afternoon on the University of West Georgia campus when a car turned into the path of his motorcycle.

The fatal collision occurred at the entrance to the West Georgia football stadium about an hour before the Wolves’ homecoming game against Henderson State, the Carrollton Times-Georgian reported.

Dyas, 20, was a junior on the West Georgia golf team, which he joined last season after transferring from Georgia Southern.

He just carded the best round of his collegiate career, an even-par 71, last week in the final round of the Sandestin Intercollegiate Invitational in Florida, according to the West Georgia athletics website. He finished in 47th place with a three-round total of 229.

Dyas and the rest of the Wolves finished ninth out of 11 teams in the Sandestin tournament and were due to play in the Montevallo Invitational in Calera, AL, on Monday and Tuesday.

Dyas' parents told WSB-TV on Sunday that the golf team canceled that road trip.

Dyas was the son of David and Cathy Dyas and was majoring in finance at West Georgia, according to his bio with the golf team. He was a member of two state championship teams at Harrison.

The parents said he had bought the motorcycle about a month ago, the WSB-TV report showed.

His Facebook page indicates Dyas originally was from Charlotte, NC, and remained a big fan of the University of North Carolina.
