In Jail, Socks No Place for Pills

During a pat down, a total of 54 pain pills "fell to the floor" from the feet of a man arrested with an empty prescription bottle in his pocket.

A man turned over to authorities by a bondsman faces a new charge following his Friday arrest.

Chase Lovell Gates, 27, of Acworth, was jailed Friday in Cartersville after came off his bond, according to the incident report.

During book-in procedures, a deputy performing a pat down reported finding an empty prescription bottle in Gates' pocket, then continued the pat down to Gates' feet.

Gates allegedly had 22 oxycodone pills in one sock and 32 in another, all of which "fell to the floor" when the officer removed Gates' socks. The narcotic medication and Schedule II controlled substance had been prescribed to Gates and filled the day of his arrest, according to the empty bottle.

Citing the 's medical staff "would not give him his medication when he needed it," Gates allegedly told police he tried to conceal the pills. He was charged with possession of drugs across a guard line.
