Kennesaw City Councilman Arrested on Child Molestation Charges

Leonard Leroy Church, who was voted to the city council last November, also previously served two terms as the mayor of the north Cobb county city.

Cobb police have arrested a Kennesaw city councilman, who served two terms as the city’s mayor, on two counts of child molestation early Friday.

Leonard Leroy Church, 66, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. and is currently being held in the Cobb County jail without bond.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that a boy informed his parents that he had been shown pornographic material and molested in the councilman’s Kennesaw home.

The Marietta Daily Journal reported that Kennesaw City attorney Randall Bentley was unsure as what steps the city council would take regarding the matter.

Church was first elected mayor of Kennesaw in 1999, and was voted to the city council last November before taking the oath of office in January of this year.

According to the City of Kennesaw website, Church, a Sprayberry High School graduate, opened Church Dental Prosthetics in 1987 and had worked within the dental field for four-and-a-half decades. His bio lists his occupation as a real estate agent with Clear Summit Realty.
