Man Faces Theft Charge in Acworth

He remains in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond.

A Dallas man faces theft and other charges after police found a stolen vehicle parked at an Acworth motel where he was living.

Daryn Mitchell told Acworth police that he purchased the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo via Craigslist, according to an arrest warrant. However, he had no bill of sale or title for the vehicle, records show.

The vehicle had been reported stolen to DeKalb County authorities on June 26, 2013, according to the warrant.

"Accused did improperly affix to said vehicle a Georgia temporary license tag (that) had been issued to said accused ... for a different vehicle," police said. "The temporary tag was also altered to change the expiration of July 10, 2013 to August 10, 2013."

Mitchell was arrested Saturday night on one count of theft by receiving, one count of removing/affixing a license plate with the intent to conceal vehicle identity and one count of possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

"A small quantity of suspected marijuana was observed in plain sight in" Mitchell's room at the Deerfield Lodge, according to the warrant.

He remains in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond.
