Pedestrian Killed on Bells Ferry Road

An Acworth man was walking outside the crosswalk when he was hit by oncoming traffic.

A man was fatally struck by a car as he tried to cross a major thoroughfare in southwest Cherokee County Friday night.

The man, John Jeffrey Jones, 54, of Acworth, was hit and killed while crossing Bells Ferry Road near Hunter Trail just south of Woodstock around 6:35 p.m., Georgia State Patrol Spokesman Gordy Wright said.

The vehicle, a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, was driven by Joceline Josaphat, 52, of Kennesaw. Wright said no charges will be filed against the driver.

Wright said Jones was "hit outside the crosswalk while traffic had the green light."
