Photos: National Night Out in Acworth

The event promotes police-community partnerships to fight against crime.

brought their face and ears to nine neighborhoods in the local Acworth community last night during the annual National Night Out event. Acworth Police Chief Michael Wilkie said the department has been active in this program since 2004, and that it puts a face to the police force and community in the city.

Residents are their own best force in seeing what is happening. Wilkie said that community members do not hesitate to call 911 when they see suspicious activities in their neighborhoods, and are willing to look after not only their own family, but others in the community as well.

Once a year, the gives a look into daily police activities and allows citizens to be a part of 12-week (48-50 hours) course that is similar to what police officers go through to become an officer.
