Sheriff's Office: Could Be "Weeks" Before Acworth Crossing Guard Returns

The Acworth crossing guard who was struck by a Woodstock man Tuesday afternoon was released from the hospital on the same day.

It could be a while before the Acworth crossing guard who was hit in front of Freedom Middle School Tuesday afternoon could return to work, according to officials with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.

Spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said it will likely be "weeks" before Jerrold Reaid, 63, of Acworth can return to duty.

Reaid sustained a broken ankle when he was struck by a vehicle at approximately 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. Reaid has been a crossing guard for about six years, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

Baruchman was running late to his Cherokee County DUI/Drug Court graduation when he allegedly hit the crossing guard in front of the middle school, according to a press release from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office.

When detectives with the sheriff's office discovered Baruchman’s 2000 2-door Honda Accord, the “T” had been scraped off the back window and the front bumper of the vehicle had been removed.

The Sheriff's Office had originally described the vehicle as a silver Honda Prelude with a large University of Tennessee stylized "T" on the rear window.
