Son Allegedly Uses 'Stick' to Rob Dad

The 79-year-old victim said he recognized the voice of his son, who was wearing a mask when he allegedly demanded money and threatened to kill his father.

A man jailed in Cartersville is suspected in the armed robbery and assault of his father with what authorities describe as a porch railing board.

Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies say a 79-year-old father reported his son robbed and assaulted him about 7:30 p.m. last night at the Acworth trailer park home in which both men apparently live.

Wearing over his head a toboggan with mouth and eye holes and swinging a "stick," the robber stormed the dad's bedroom, demanded he get up out of bed and hand over his cash and car keys, the father told police, according to the incident report.

In addition to grazing the elder man's head with the board and kicking his leg, the son, identified as Jeffrey Floyd Clark, 48, of Acworth, allegedly damaged furniture and a wall before grabbing the victim's wallet from under the mattress along with the keys.

The wallet contained $400, and the victim told authorities his son had taken him to the bank earlier in the day to cash a check. The father believes his son, who allegedly threatened to kill the dad before leaving in his 2006 Toyota Corolla, may have been under the influence of illegal drugs.

Clark's father, who said he recognized his son's voice, sustained superficial injuries, deputies reported. The older man was unable to call his daughter following the incident because his phone lines had been cut, he told police.

Outside the home near the front porch and on the ground, deputies found a wet board they say matched an imprint left on the bed sheet during the alleged robbery.

They issued a "be on the lookout" for the Corolla, and by this morning Clark was arrested. His arrest and jail booking times are listed as 6:30 a.m. and he is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, battery, criminal trespass and theft by taking, all under the Family Violence Act.
