Suspect Killed in Acworth Carjacking

Another suspect was seen fleeing the scene along Highway 92 just west of Wade Green Road in southwest Cherokee County.

UPDATE at 6:08 p.m.: The owner of the vehicle in this afternoon's carjacking was allegedly carjacked by three men in a nearby subdivision.

That's according to new details released Thursday evening by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. The person who was found dead at the scene was discovered to have a gunshot wound to the back and autopsy will be performed Friday morning to determine the cause of death, the agency said. 

Lt. Jay Baker said the owner of the car was apparently in the back seat of the vehicle with one suspect and the two other suspects were in the front seat of the vehicle.  

"According to the victim, one of the suspects was hitting him in the head with a firearm and the gun discharged," Baker said. "Moments later, the car left the roadway and struck a tree. Two suspects fled on foot and one suspect died at the scene."

The detectives continue to search for identify the two suspects involved in the crime. The agency is not releasing the names of the parties involved at this time.

A person was killed in a carjacking in the Acworth portion of southwest Cherokee County, and another suspect is on the loose. 

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, which resulted in the death of one suspect. The incident happened near 5000 block of Highway 92 west of Wade Green Road, Lt. Jay Baker with the sheriff's office said. 

The victim and owner of the car was also inside the vehicle and was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta with head injuries. 

Cherokee investigators believe a third suspect was also inside the car, but fled the scene on foot. The suspect allegedly ran northbound from the scene of the accident. Deputies are looking for a light-skinned black man wearing a light-colored shirt and pants. 

Anyone who sees a person matching this description in the area is asked to call 911.
