Updated: Two Drownings in Lake Allatoona Over the Weekend

Authorities recovered the bodies of two men who succumb to the water Sunday.

Crews returned to Lake Allatoona this morning and continued searching for the body of a 42-year-old man who reportedly drowned Sunday evening.

Authorities said the man attempted to swim across a cove, and about 10 minutes later, his family realized they could no longer see him.

A second drowning on Lake Allatoona was reported shortly after Bartow County authorities recovered the body of a 17-year-old man who went swimming and never resurfaced.

According to a news release issued by the , the teen was recovered by divers after a 2-hour search. Friends called 911 to report the drowning.

Shortly after the recovery on Clark Creek off Glade Road in Acworth, Bartow and Cobb authorities were called to Lucille Avenue in Acworth, near Lake Allatoona.

The reported drowning of a man in his 40s at the location was turned over to Cobb County authorities.

Bartow County authorities say a teen, whose identity has not yet been released, drown in Lake Allatoona on Sunday.

They received a call reporting a possible drowning at Clark Creek Campground off Glade Road in Acworth about 4 p.m. Sunday and recovered the body of a 17-year-old male about 6:30 p.m.

Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said it appears the teen lacked experience swimming. No foul play or alcohol involvement is suspected.

The drowning is at least the third in area lakes this year. Memorial Day weekend, a 34-year-old Fairburn man and a few days later, a 28-year-old Woodstock man in Lake Allatoona.
