Updated: Train Strikes, Kills Man in Acworth

The incident, believed to be a suicide, occurred around 8 p.m. Monday, according to police.

Acworth police say the man hit by a train in downtown Acworth later died as a result of the severe injuries he suffered in what's believed to be a suicide. Here's the department's full statement:

On April 29, 2013 at approximately 8:09pm, the Acworth Police Department responded to the area of Main Street and Lemon Street in reference to a person struck by a train. Upon Officers arrival, they discovered the victim suffered severe injuries and was transported to Kennestone Hospital where he later died. At this time it is believed that this incident was the result of a suicide.

A pedestrian was struck by a train Monday night in downtown Acworth.

The unidentified man was taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries, Acworth police Capt. Mark Cheatham told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

It is not clear why the injured man was on the tracks at the time of the incident, which occurred around 8 p.m. Monday.
