Warrant: Acworth Kidnapping Story Was Bogus

About 2:17 a.m. Saturday, Charles Wendell Merckson called 911 "to report he was kidnapped and robbed."

Acworth police said an Atlanta man who claimed he was kidnapped and robbed early Saturday morning fabricated the whole story.

About 2:17 a.m. June 15, Charles Wendell Merckson called 911 "to report he was kidnapped and robbed by subjects somewhere near the Subway restaurant located on Baker Road in Acworth," according to a Cobb County arrest warrant. "When officer's arrived on scene, accused reported he remembered being struck in the back of the head, which knocked him out, and when he woke up he was in the back of a silver van and $200 cash was missing from his person."

Merckson was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment. At the hospital, the truth came out.

"He admitted to making the false report of being kidnapped and robbed because he was mad at his friend ... for not giving him a ride back to his residence in Atlanta," according to the warrant. "Accused also admitted to loaning the cash to (his friend) earlier" in the day.

Merckson was arrested Saturday on a charge of false report of a crime. He remains in custody in lieu of $3,000 bond.
