Warrant: Husband Leaves Injured Wife at Scene of Accident

He was arrested Friday morning on charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless conduct and failure to report an accident with injury/death/damage.

Update, 3:24 p.m. Thursday

Marietta attorney Charles G. Harbin Jr., who represents Jeremiah D. Reed, said his client "did not leave his injured wife at the scene of the accident. Instead, he picked her up, placed her in his pick-up truck and drove her to his home and called 911 while en route. The basis for the duty to report accident charge is that he drove away from the location where the incident initially occurred not that he left his wife there."

Original story, 2:15 p.m. Tuesday

An Acworth woman got out of a moving Chevy Silverado sometime between 11:53 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday, and her husband allegedly left his injured wife on McClure Road without calling 911.

Though Erin Reed had "significant injuries to her face, head, shoulder, leg and hands" that "should have caused immediate concern for the safety and preservation of the victim's well being," Jeremiah D. Reed "did not remain at the accident location and call for assistance from EMS and police," according to a Cobb County criminal warrant.

When authorities found him at a Walkabout Creek Court residence—still behind the wheel of his truck—he "had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about his person and bloodshot watery eyes," records show.

In the warrant, authorities wrote that Jeremiah D. Reed "displayed intoxicated behavior; had slow reactions to questions and loud and boisterous descriptions of occurrences; was unable to recall details of questions posed only moments earlier; and (was) unsteady on his feet."

He refused a field alcohol sensor and the state-administrered breath test. However, he "admitted to consuming at least 5 alcoholic drinks at the bar he had just left," according to the warrant.

He was arrested Friday morning on charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless conduct and failure to report an accident with injury/death/damage. He was released a few hours later on a $3,000 bond.

Authorities called EMS for Erin Reed as soon as they arrived on the scene, according to the warrant.
