Cobb County has notified the cities of the county’s intention to place on the November 4, 2014 ballot a request for a six year renewal of the one penny SPLOST for Roads, Parks & Public Safety (SPLOST 2016). If approved by the voters, the City of Acworth’s share of these funds would be approximately $20,800,000.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen have the responsibility to determine what projects should be funded using said funds. When coming up with an overall list of projects the city had over $100,000,000 in projects. City staff working with the Mayor and Aldermen have narrowed the list down to projects which would have the greatest benefits to the citizens of Acworth and those projects that have high priorities based on community input. In addition the city did hold a community meeting on May 13, 2014 to get additional input into potential projects.
