Owner of Cobb Company Charged with Stealing $500K from Medicaid

The indictment was one of two cases where defendants from Cobb were charged with Medicaid fraud.

The owner and operator of a Cobb speech therapy company allegedly billed Medicaid for more than $500,000 worth of services that were never performed, Attorney General Sam Olens said Monday.

A Cobb County grand jury Thursday indicted Robinson Rehabilitation Services Inc. owner and operator Timothy Robinson on four counts of Medicaid fraud and four counts of identity fraud. The company was located at 4957 Day Lily Way in Acworth, according to online records.

From 2009 until February 2013, Robinson allegedly submitted false claims using the identification numbers of four speech therapists who had resigned from the company, Olens said in a statement.

"In total," he said, "Robinson fraudulently received $549,326.05 in Medicaid payments to which he was not entitled."

Medicaid fraud is punishable by one to 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000. Identity fraud is punishable by one to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.

The indictment was one of two cases where defendants from Cobb were charged with Medicaid fraud. Four people affiliated with First Step Counseling Services Inc. were indicted after an investigation revealed the Georgia Medicaid program paid the company more than $650,000 for services that were never rendered.
