Tax Increase Hearings This Week

If approved, the city's new millage rate will mean a four percent increase in property taxes.

Citizens who wish to voice their opinions on a proposed City of Acworth property tax increase will have their first of three opportunities to do so later this week.

The city has officially announced its plan to adopt a millage rate of 7.60 mills, which is 0.312 mills higher than the rollback rate and equals a 4.28 percent property tax increase.

For a home with a fair market value of $125,000, the tax increase will mean an extra $15.60 goes to the tax man. A non-homestead property worth $250,000 will pay $31.20 more in property taxes should the new millage rate be adopted.

Two public hearings on the tentative millage rate increase will be held on Thursday, July 17 at Acworth City Hall. The first meeting will commence at 9:00 a.m., with a second meeting being held at 7:00 p.m.

The final opportunity to discuss the millage rate increase will be on July 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Acworth City Hall. The Acworth City Council will vote on the millage rate increase following this meeting.
