Tourism Is Cobb's No. 1 Economic Driver

A recent study shows that travel and tourism remain the No. 1 economic driver in Cobb County, with the industry having a total economic impact of more than $2.02 billion and employing almost 30,000 in 2010.

According to the study by Robert Lann Consulting, there was a 13.3 percent increase in the economic impact of travel and tourism in Cobb County in 2009 and a 16.4 percent increase for employment in the same year.

“The results are very encouraging and show how important the travel and tourism industry is to our community,” said Tim Lee, the chairman of the. “Tourism is an instant revenue generator and job creator for Cobb County.”

Commissioned by Cobb Travel & Tourism, the study’s purpose was to gain knowledge of travel and tourism's impact in the county. The same study was also conducted in 2011 for the 2009 impact results.

“I am thrilled to see an increase,” said Don Geiger, the chairman of Cobb Travel & Tourism. “As we continue to work together with our partners and showcase Cobb’s unique tourism destinations, I believe we will see the industry’s economic impact continue to grow.”
