Allatoona's Hood, Fowler Honored by Atlanta Tipoff Club

Coach Markus Hood was named the Bobby Cremins Boys Coach of the Year (Class 4A - 6A) and senior Daniel Fowler was named to the All-Metro Atlanta Boys Second Team.

The Allatoona High School boys standout basketball season came to a disappointing close last week, but there was still reason to smile Wednesday as the Buccaneers' coach and top player were honored by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Coach Markus Hood was named the Bobby Cremins Boys Coach of the Year (Class 4A - 6A) and senior shooting guard Daniel Fowler was named to the All-Metro Atlanta Boys Second Team.

After losing five seniors, including four starters from last year's squad, Hood, the program's only coach in seven years, guided the Bucs to a 29-2 record and the Region 5-AAAAA championship.

Fowler led the team this year and had an outstanding performance in a state tournament win over MLK with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. The Bucs' season came to a close last week in a quarterfinals loss to Stephenson.

Elsewhere, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced that St. Pius X Catholic High School junior Asia Durr was named Miss Georgia Basketball, while another area junior, McEachern High School’s Te’a Cooper, earned the Girls Metro Player of the Year award.

On the boy’s side, Effingham County High School senior JaKeenan Gant claimed Mr. Georgia Basketball and Isaiah Wilkins, a senior from Greater Atlanta Christian School, was named the Boys Metro Player of the Year.

All-Metro first, second and third teams also were announced, as were the individuals receiving Honorable Mention All-Metro accolades and the area coaches of the year.

The winners were selected by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s board of selectors, comprised of leading basketball coaches and administrators from around the region, who based their criteria on player performances throughout the season.  All honorees will be recognized at the Atlanta Tipoff Club Naismith Awards Banquet presented by AT&T and Newell Rubbermaid on Thursday, March 20 at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta.
