Seven Chatt Tech Students Awarded

Seven students at Chattahoochee Technical College were awarded with the Peterson Scholarship to help with their careers.

One Acworth student is among the seven automotive and diesel technology students from who were awarded with the Peterson Scholarship—a complete tool kit for their new career path. The scholarships didn't come in the form of giant checks, but that doesn’t mean they won’t go to good use.

“What an amazing gift on behalf of the Petersons’ son this is,” said Dr. Ron Newcomb, President of Chattahoochee Technical College. “They have sustained this now for eight years through their generosity and support for these students. It is an amazing opportunity for these students to receive these sets of tools.”

Alan and Claire Peterson established this scholarship in memory of their son, Michael. Family and friends keep his memory alive by awarding tool sets to students who are passionate about careers in the automotive industry. The Petersons hold an annual golf tournament each fall to raise funds for the scholarship awards. These special scholarships were first awarded in 2006.

“To us it is all about the students,” Alan Peterson told onlookers Monday. “They overcome unbelievable hardships to pursue a career in automotive technology. Our hats are off to all of you.”
