NCCS Senior Sarah Gold Wins Rockette Audition

North Cobb Christian Senior jumps to first round of Rockette auditions by winning contest.

Sarah Gold of Acworth has been kicking up her heels a lot lately.

The 18-year-old senior at in Kennesaw won the chance to audition for the world-famous Radio City Rockettes dance troupe in New York City this week.

Sarah, the daughter of Cindy and Russell Gold, won the “Jump the Line” contest to audition May 10 by having hundreds of family, friends and classmates vote for her dance video online. Unfortunately, she did not make it to the final round and headed back home after some shopping and sightseeing in the Big Apple.

“I had amazing support throughout this whole process,” said Sarah, who plans to attend Oklahoma City University in the fall to major in dance performance. “My family was an amazing help–my little brother, Michael (age 15), made sure all his friends knew to vote for me every day. My school was behind me 100 percent and my dance studio, CK DanceWorks in Acworth, did an amazing job of promoting me.”

Hundreds of girls try out annually for the prestigious dance group, and judges selected the top four contest dance videos and put them online to see who claimed the most number of online votes to “jump the line.”

“When they said I had won, I screamed and gave everyone in the room a huge hug,” said Sarah, who was at the dance studio with her instructor, Christina Wiginton.  “It’s amazing to have the opportunity to fly up to New York and audition for the Rockettes, especially at such a young age.”

Sarah said she has been dancing since the age of four and has performed in many school musicals, including “Annie,” “Seussical,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” She also helped choreograph some of those musicals.

Her favorite memory of the entire experience was winning the contest. “Having the luxury of skipping the line was great,” Sarah said. “It was so cool being surrounded by all the amazing dancers who auditioned alongside me, and having the chance to dance in a historical place like Radio City Music Hall.”

While in New York, Sarah and her dance instructor attended a Broadway show and took in the sights and sounds of NYC.  “I’m so thankful for those who supported me and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to audition,” Sarah said. “And I will definitely be going back to try again!"
