North Cobb Brings Attention to Children Without Shoes Effort

The TOMS Campus Club at North Cobb High is promoting the One Day Without Shoes event on April 16.

Since 2010, North Cobb High School students have participated in their own TOMS Campus Club, a national movement sparked by the TOMS shoe company. To understand the club means understanding the people who inspired the business. While traveling in Argentina in 2006, American Blake Mycoskie became friendly with a local village. Upon learning their children had no shoes to protect their feet, Mycoskie founded TOMS, pledging to match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of shoes to be donated to a child in need.

The TOMS Campus Club at North Cobb is one of many similar student groups on high school and college campuses across the nation. They share with peers why providing shoes for children helps improve their health and safety, including prevention of diseases such as hookworm. The NCHS TOMS club is currently working on promoting the One Day Without Shoes event on April 16, a nationwide effort to remove barriers to children’s education and health.

As part of the Ticket to Give program, club adviser Laura Foster has an opportunity to attend a Shoe Drop on behalf of the school, but only if her entry is among the top 50.

As the sponsor of the TOMS Club here at North Cobb, I have entered in the Ticket to Give Contest. The link for my ticket is on the North Cobb website and I will provide it in the e-mail as well. This would be a life changing experience for me and opportunity to share with students as well. Hopefully, it will make them more aware of how they can make a difference.” -NCHS TOMS Club adviser Laura Foster
