North Cobb Post 304 Is Looking for You

Applications for the American Legion Boys and Girls State programs are now available.

North Cobb Post 304 is now accepting applications from rising high school seniors interested in learning more about the political process.

Beginning June 9, successful applicants will head to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro on a weeklong, all-expense paid trip to the American Legion Boys and Girls State programs.

Through hands on programs, students will learn about city, county and state government.

"Each level of government is run by delegates who are elected to serve by other delegates," Post 304 Cmdr. Ron Asby said in a news release.

Participants will even organize a mythical 51st state.

"The sole purpose is to enable the participants to grasp the meaning of the responsibilities they will be called on to assume later on in their lives," Asby said.

Applicants must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and attend one of the following high schools: Allatoona, Harrison, Kennesaw Mountain, North Cobb, North Cobb Christian and Mount Paran Christian.

Students at these schools can pick up an application from their counselors. For more information, contact Post 304 Boys State Chairman John H. Hodge at 770-919-2133 or jhodge61@comcast.net.
