Six Acworth Students Among UGA Charter Scholarship Recipients

Incoming University of Georgia freshmen receive the award for excellence in academics, leadership and community involvement.

Six Acworth-area students were among a group of University of Georgia incoming freshmen to be awarded the Charter Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year.

The Charter Scholarship awards first-year undergraduates who have "stellar academic records, leadership and community involvement, and a respect for and commitment to intellectual, social and cultural diversity," according to a release from UGA.

Usually, the top 6 to 8 percent of incoming freshmen are distinguished as Charter Scholars.Β

Georgia scholars receive $1,000 per year in addition to the HOPE Scholarship, while out-of-state recipients are given partial non-resident tuition differential waivers along with the $1,000 annual award.
