What's Your Dr. Seuss Favorite?
Celebrate the doctor of kid lit's birthday by joining Read Across America Day.
Snitches and Grinches and a Lorax or two,
Wockets in pockets and Horton hearing a Who,
Green eggs and ham and a cat in a hat,
On Dr. Seuss’ birthday, no kid is a brat.
My deepest apologies for the weak attempt at a tribute to the memory of Theodor Geisel, the great Dr. Seuss, who would be celebrating his 108th birthday today if his body were as immortal as his words.
But if Ukariah could dare to go to the Euphemism during Grinch Night—the most underrated of Dr. Seuss' TV specials—why not risk a tribute in verse to mark Read Across America Day?

Reading the good doctor's books already is the ultimate way to celebrate his life and the special role he played in both childhood and parenthood for so many of us. So anything I write is at best a distant second.
Here are some ways to mark the day:

- Join the Cobb County Public Library for Seussian fun. The in Northeast Cobb and the in Mableton have after-school options.

- Go see The Lorax, the new 3-D animated movie based on Dr. Seuss' environmental parable.
- Pledge to do something, and be sure to check out the other pledges from across Georgia. None from Acworth yet; maybe you'll be the first.
- Simply read to your children. As Seussville notes, "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child."
