Allatoona Advances to Quarterfinals

The Buccaneers score late and win to move forward in the GHSA State Football Playoffs.

Running back Miles Jones scored twice in the second half, according to the Marietta Daily Journal, to lead Allatoona to a come-from-behind 14-7 victory Friday in the second round of the GHSA 3A State Football Championships over Mary Persons.

fell behind early because Mary Persons stacked the box with eight, sometimes nine defenders, slowing the Buccaneer rushing attack. When Allatoona began throwing the ball the stacked box loosened and Jones was able to capitalize.

Jones carried the ball 20 times for 97 yards and eclipsed the 2,000-yard plateau for the season.

The Buccaneers will play Burke County next Friday in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Burke County is also undefeated and a No. 1 seed, so home-field advantage will be determined by a coin flip.
