Allatoona Falls Short of Perfect Record

The Bucs lose their first regular season game since November 2010.

More than just the County Line Treasure Chest was on the line Friday night as the Allatoona Buccaneers visited the Boneyard, the home of the East Paulding Raiders. Both Region 5-AAAAA teams were undefeated and the Region Championship would go to the winner.

Allatoona took the opening kickoff and got to work at its own 23-yard line. Driving the ball down the field through the air and on the ground, the opening drive looked promising. But the Raider defense stopped the Buccaneers on the East Paulding 20. Allatoona had to settle for a field goal attempt. Nathan Shaw pulled the kick just left of the upright. The attempt was no good.

East Paulding took possession and scored with a little more than one minute left in the first quarter. After holding Allatoona on their next possession, East Paulding scored again with 9:48 left in the second, but missed the extra point. The Raiders went up 13-0, and kept it that way until another touchdown late in the third quarter. East Paulding followed that up with a field goal with 9:36 left in the fourth quarter.

The Allatoona offense was ineffective against the Raider defense for most of the game. Down 23-0 in the fourth quarter, the Bucs' handed East Paulding a safety after a bad snap to punter Nathan Shaw (29) sailed over his head and out of the back of the endzone.

Late in the fourth, Allatoona got on the board with a pass to Clarence Soleberry (4) in the corner of the endzone. The extra point was good.

Allatoona got the ball back after a successful onside kick, but failed to gain a first down and turned it back over to the Raiders. East Paulding let the clock expire. The final score was East Paulding 25, Allatoona 7.
