Allatoona Teams to Play in Semifinals

Here are five things you need to know before starting your Thursday.

  • Another sunny day is in store with the temperature reaching 54 degrees with a calm northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures won’t fall as low as they did Wednesday night as partly cloudy skies will keep the low around 37 degrees.
  • Both Allatoona High School’s boys and girls basketball teams won their first-round games against North Paulding High squads in convincing fashion Wednesday night at Allatoona’s second annual three-day Lake City Classic Basketball Tournament.
  • Allatoona’s girls basketball team will take its school-best 10-1 record and play South Atlanta (3-6) at 7 p.m. today in one semifinal of the Lake City Classic Basketball Tournament at Allatoona High School. Allatoona’s 9-2 boys’ squad will play against 8-0 Carrollton at 8:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

  • This Day in History: In 1778, heavily outnumbered American forces of 650 and 900 men were forced to surrender the key Georgia port city of Savannah to British forces numbering between 2,500 and 3,600, History.com reported.
