Update: Lady Bucs, Warriors Eliminated

Allatoona and North Cobb were both one and done in Friday's play at the state softball championships in Columbus.

Allatoona and North Cobb entered play today at the GHSA softball championships in Columbus knowing they had to win five games in a row over two days to earn the state title.

Neither managed to win even one.

We don't have details from the AAA tournament, but Allatoona was knocked out when the Lady Bucs lost to West Laurens this afternoon, 9-3.

Thanks to North Cobb's iScore account, anyone can watch an online presentation replaying the Lady Warriors' only AAAAA game of the day, a 3-1 loss to crosstown rival and fellow Region 4-AAAAA member Kennesaw Mountain.

The Lady Mustangs scored one run in the second inning and two in the third and had the help of five North Cobb errors.

The Lady Warriors, meanwhile, had no hits entering the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but with one out senior Morgan Johnson hit a double to get North Cobb started.

Senior Kaitlyn Lawrence hit a single to drive home sophomore pinch runner Joy Lowery, and senior Allie Coronado followed with another single to put the potential tying run on base.

But the next two batters grounded out to end the game.

Kennesaw Mountain will play Mill Creek in the next elimination game at 7 p.m.

Both the Lady Buccaneers and the Lady Warriors opened the eight-team, double-elimination tournaments with a one-run win Thursday, then lost a blowout to a region rival to fall into the losers bracket.

In the AAA tournament, Allatoona beat Locust Grove, 4-3, but lost to fellow Region 7-AAA team Ringgold , 7-0, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

Allatoona had beaten Ringgold twice this season, 4-0 in the regular season and 5-4 in the regional tournament, according to Georgia Prep Country.

The Lady Bucs, now 26-10, play the winner of the Veterans-West Laurens game today at 1 p.m. If they win that game, they’ll play again at 5 p.m. for the right to try to win three more games and the championship Saturday.

The foe in the 5 p.m. game could be the Region 7-AAA champion, Heritage, which has beaten the Lady Bucs twice this year.

In the AAAAA tournament, North Cobb started well with a 2-1 win over but then lost to Region 4-AAAAA champion , 10-2. You can read the play-by-play or watch a virtual replay of the game at iScore.

The Hillgrove game ended early because of the Lady Hawks’ big lead, the MDJ reported.

North Cobb, now 27-12, could face its second consecutive regional rival in its first game today at 3 p.m. The Lady Warriors will face the winner of this morning’s Kennesaw Mountain-East Coweta game.

Kennesaw Mountain has beaten North Cobb three times this year, including twice this month in the Region 4-AAAAA tournament, according to Georgia Prep Country.
