Cobb's Cotton Shoots to Lead WSU to National Title

The state of Georgia has more than 20 former high school players participating in the Big Dance, including the Smyrna area's own Tekele Cotton.

The former Whitefield Academy standout is hoping to help lead undefeated Wichita State to its second straight Final Four. The Shockers, the top seed from the Midwest Region, begin play on Friday against Cal Poly. 

Cotton started all 34 games for Wichita State this season, as the 6-foot-2 guard is averaging 10.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

As one can see from the video attached, Cotton knows how to take it to the rim with authority.

An honor student at Whitefield, Cotton’s game has thrived at the next level as he was recently named the Missouri Valley Conference tournament's most outstaning player. The junior was also recognized as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.

As this recent article on Cotton concludes, “The entire nation will get a chance to see just how much more the Shocker guard can provide on top of his defense. With improvements across the board this season in everything from field goal percentage to free throw accuracy to assists to rebounds, Cotton is well on his way to becoming the complete player that Wichita State needs him to be if they are going to navigate through the NCAA tournament and put the finishing touches on a perfect season.”
