Friday Football Preview

Football's back! The 2011 season kicks off Friday.

The 2011 football season is finally here. There has been a spattering of games throughout the area, but tonight is the night where most of the football teams kick off.

Here's what's on the slate for schools in the Acworth Patch:

Kennesaw Mountain (0-0) at Allatoona (0-0) –  A young program that appears to be on the rise hosts another young program that has yet to find its footing. made the playoffs in just its second full season of football a year ago, while Kennesaw Mountain stumbled to a 1-9 record and is still looking for its first state playoff appearance in 11 seasons. Allatoona won this matchup last year by the score of 24-22.

Mt. Zion (Carrolton) (0-0) at North Cobb Christian (0-0) – went 2-8 last year, but one of those wins came in their season opener against Mt. Zion, 26-8. North Cobb is in its fourth season of varsity football, but it is not playing a full region schedule and is not eligible for a state playoff berth.

Alpharetta (0-0) at North Cobb (0-0) – Alpharetta blitzed 42-19 in this season opening matchup a year ago. The Warriors will have to come up with a way to defend Alpharetta’s highly touted junior receiver Carlos Burse if they want to avoid a similar result.
