Harrison Looks to Repeat at State Golf Champions

The Harrison boys golf team won the 2010 state golf championships and will attempt Monday to go back-to-back. Play begins for the 5A teams at Summit Chase Country Club in Snellville, Ga.

The Harrison girls will also be competing. The Lady Hoyas will play at the Monroe Golf and Country Club in Monroe, Ga.

The golf team did not qualify to participate in the team event, but Austin Williams was selected to compete for a singles title.

Altough baseball's regular season has ended, and no playoff games are being played on Monday, the way the Region 7-AAA final standings were tabulated, and therefore its playoff teams decided, are worth noting.

The northwest portion on Georgia was hit hard by tornadoes last Wednesday and the final games on the Region 7-AAA were cancelled, with the standings frozen.

That means Cartersville will be the No. 1 seed, Ringgold the No. 2 seed, and the No. 3 seed. All three teams were tied for first place, and tiebreakers were needed to settle the seeds.

Cartersville and Ringgold will play home games in the first round of the playoffs, while Allatoona will be on the road.

Girls Golf

will participate in the 5A GHSA Golf State Championships at Monroe Golf and Country Club, 8:30 a.m. 

Boys Golf

Harrison will participate in the 5A GHSA Golf State Championships at Summit Chase Country Club, 8:30 a.m.
