North Cobb Dominates Kennesaw Mountain

The Warriors' strong first half held for a 42-17 victory.

The had a field day in Friday night's Civil War Classic against , decisively defeating the Mustangs, 42-17.Β 

Kennesaw Mountain may have struck first with a field goal early in the first quarter, but that would be the Mustangs only score of the first half. The Warriors then began their onslaught.Β 

With 7:55 remaining in the first, freshman quarterback Tyler Queen crossed the goal line on a quarterback sneak to score North Cobb's first touchdown of the contest.Β

Kennesaw Mountain was plagued with penalties and misguided efforts in the first half. Mustang quarterback Dallin Finley got into trouble early in the Mustang's first drive after the North Cobb touchdown and attempted to dump the ball instead of taking a safety. Unfortunately for Kennesaw Mountain, the play was ruled a fumble and North Cobb recovered the ball at the 1-yard line.Β 

North Cobb quickly took advantage of Kennesaw Mountain's misstep with wide receiver Nick Miller carrying the ball in for a score. Before the first quarter expired, Tyler Queen would again run the ball into the end zone for North Cobb, giving North Cobb a heavy lead at 21-3.Β  With seconds remaining in the quarter, Kennesaw Mountain fumbled the ball for a second time and North Cobb quickly recovered.

The second quarter was all about North Cobb. The Warriors' Quinten James would score twice, and Jalen Williams would score on a precision pass from Tyler Queen. Effectively doubling their lead 42-3, North Cobb was surely in the driver's seat heading into halftime.

Kennesaw Mountain attempted to use the second half as a rally point, coming out strong in the third quarter with a touchdown pass from quarterback Dallin Finley to wide receiver Tyler Bowman.Β  After a failed two-point conversion attempt, the Mustangs held strong in their defense and managed to stop North Cobb from extending their lead even further.Β 

With just 31.6 seconds to go in the third, North Cobb fumbled at the 6-yard line, providing Kennesaw Mountain with an additional scoring opportunity.Β  The Mustang's took advantage of the fumble when wide receiver Clay Ryan added another six points to the Mustang's score.Β  Dallin Finely would then successfully complete the two-point conversion, hitting Alfonza Marshall deep in the end zone.Β 

Despite their best efforts, the Mustang's rally was no match for the stellar first half performance by the Warriors.Β 

The Warriors were awarded the Civil War Classic Trophy and have officially earned bragging rights for the season over Kennesaw Mountain.
