Acworth Farmer's Market Downtown on Friday Mornings

The Historic Downtown Acworth Farmer's Market, sponsored by the Acworth Downtown Development Authority, aims to support the development of the local agricultural economy.

The 2013 season of the Acworth Farmer's Market already is under way, but its goal is not only to help farmers deliver fresh goods to local customers, but also to bring back a "small-town, community atmosphere" to downtown Acworth, according to the city's website.

The Historic Downtown Acworth Farmer’s Market, which is sponsored by the Acworth Downtown Development Authority, also provides an alternative shopping spot—the Main Street upper parking lot, parallel to the railroad tracks. The market started May 24 and runs each Friday through Oct. 25, from 7 to 11 a.m., rain or shine.

It's goal is "to support the development of the local agricultural economy" by providing a place for farmers and growers to sell directly to consumers and to help businesses that sell food and kitchen-related products or those that farm and garden, so locally-grown ingredients find their way to the local market.

"The Farmer’s Market is to encourage a sense of community where business people and residents come into historic downtown to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and various other products from area farmers and growers," officials said in an application for farmers, which is attached.

While part of Farmer's Market fun is visiting with the farmers and checking out their new arrivals, shoppers will have a wide variety of garden-ripe, Georgia grown vegetables; bedding plants; and fresh baked pies, cakes, bread and jams, from which to choose each week, according to officials.
