Two Drownings in Georgia on Memorial Day Weekend

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Law Enforcement Division keeps tabs on improper boating and other safety issues on Lake Allatoona and other Georgia's waterways.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Law Enforcement Division has issued its final statistics for the 2013 Memorial Day weekend.

They include two drownings throughout the weekend, but none in nearby lakes, such as Allatoona. One person went under in the Augusta Canal on Sunday and another on a private pond in Coffee County.

Rangers across the state arrested 39 people for alleged boating under the influence and recorded six boating incidents, which resulted in five boating-related injuries.

Five people were arrested on BUI charges on Lake Allatoona, three on Sunday.

Memorial Day weekend last year saw two local drownings, including one on Lake Allatoona, three BUIs and one boating incident that did not result in an injury or a fatality.
