Local Farmers Markets: Where Do You Get Your Vegetables?

Atlanta Magazine offers a guide of local farmers markets.

As spring comes into full bloom, we are soon to see more local growers at farmers markets. At Lake Pointe Chiropractic & Wellness Center, we provide nutritional counseling when opting for a more holistic way of living. Food plays an important role in our lives. We celebrate with it. We entertain with it. We commiserate with it. But, when you take a closer look, what are you really feeding your body?

As a Chiropractic Doctor, I always recommend to my patients to look at the color of their foods. You might not be well versed in fats, proteins and carbohydrates, but your eyes will naturally lead you to the right choices. Foods rich in phytonutrients are important for our bodies to function optimally, and yes, they are commonly found in colorful fruits and vegetables. These phytochemicals, like beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein, provide specific benefits to your body's systems. Strive to get a wide variety of greens, yellows, reds, oranges, purples and white colors on your plate to keep your immune system healthy and provide your body with the vitamins and minerals it really needs.
