Acworth Man Guides Golden Army

Lindsey Turner's Golden Soldiers organization wields the Golden Rule to fight for a better world.

That Golden Rule is what drives the founder of Golden Soldiers, Lindsey Turner of Acworth, who started the organization based on the need to take care of one another.

“It’s not about a certain religion or one concept,” said Turner, 32. “It’s about needing something like this in our world today.”

Golden Soldiers holds several events in and around Acworth, including mentoring at the for special-needs children on Saturdays for baseball games.

The next game is this Saturday at 9 a.m. at

Golden Soldiers also rents out movie theaters and invites families with special-needs children to enjoy a sensory-friendly movie together.

“Sitting through a two-hour movie can be challenging for those families,” Turner said. “This is a free night where there are no rules and they are free to be themselves.”

The organization holds free financial-planning workshops for those families “to help them get through the sea of paperwork associated with many government programs,” he added.

“I’d like to become the faith-based Chick-fil-A of nonprofits,” said Turner, who is also beginning a program called Mission Possible 365 and has enlisted the likes of Georgia head football coach Mark Richt to meet this challenge: Can you act out the Golden Rule at least once a day for the rest of your life?

If your answer is yes, Turner said, then, upon accepting the challenge, you will become a Golden Soldier.

I recently heard of the Golden Soldiers and watched certain videos by Patch. “It’s about needing something like this in our world today.”----How great!

The first time I heard about the Golden Soldiers was when I covered the story on the 'Covering the Bases' fundraiser for special needs children, and there were parents who told me that this was the organization that helped them discover the Horizon League/Field for their children. The participants are not just from Acworth, but all over the area including Kennesaw, Marietta and other surrounding communities.
