MLK Holiday: Day On, Not Day Off

Acworth Achievers spent the afternoon doing community service to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

While schools and government offices were closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, volunteers in the Acworth Achievers Mentoring and After School Program participated in an afternoon of community service. The group picked up trash around the Roberts School Community and Education Center, a historic building in the African-American community in Acworth.

It was the second time the ο»Ώο»Ώ organized the MLK Day of Service event. Frank White, recreation coordinator with the department, said most volunteers came from middle schools and high schools. White said the service day is becoming an annual event, and he hopes the program will attract more students to give back to the community.
