Acworth to Welcome Santa, Light a Menorah

Menorah lighting is Tuesday; Santa arrives Friday.

Acworth is getting ready to embrace both Christmas and Chanukah this week.

The city invites everyone to its second annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 3, the seventh night of Chanukah, at 6 p.m.  

The menorah is located at the corner of Cowan Road and Main Street. Rabbi Zalman Charytan from the Chabad Jewish Center will officiate the lighting with Mayor Tommy Allegood assisting.

Then, on Friday, Dec. 6, Santa will stop at the downtown Depot. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. and the big guy arrives at 6:30. Live performances will last until 9.

Activities include pictures with Mr. & Mrs. Claus, eating candy canes with all their elves, puppet shows, face painting, train rides, marshmallow roasting, hot chocolate and a live nativity.  Attendees can also decorate a Christmas card to send to soldiers.

Those wanting to take pictures with Santa should arrive at at 5:15 p.m. to schedule a time. Participants should bring their own cameras, as a photographer will not be on site.
