Acworth readers have chosen the frozen yogurt franchise as the winner in this week's Readers' Choice.
Congratulations to Menchie's on winning this week's Acworth Patch Readers' Choice for having readers' favorite frozen yogurt in town. The Acworth Menchie's franchise owned by Randy Elias and Scott Paton was opened in February of 2011. The shop located on Cobb Parkway offers a rotating selection of frozen yogurt flavors, such as blueberry tart, chocolate, French vanilla, Irish mint, pistachio and pumpkin. Many of the flavors come in healthy formats such as gluten-free, low fat and non-sugar added. Patrons serve themselves frozen yogurt and add a selection of toppings. Prices are based upon weight. “We think the new concept and high quality of the product gives consumers a dessert option in the neighborhood,” said Paton at Menchie's grand …
The Board of Education has until June 30 to find a compromise that at least four members can support for fiscal 2013.
The Cobb County School District has to go back to the chalkboard after the Board of Education failed to approve the fiscal 2013 budget Thursday night. The school board has until June 30 to pass a budget for the year that starts July 1, but after Thursday's extensive, often passionate debate, the path forward is unclear. A special meeting will be scheduled to search for an answer. The seven board members staked out at least four distinct positions on the proposed $841.9 million budget—none of them matching the administration's recommendation. Superintendent Michael Hinojosa and Chief Financial Officer Mike Addison entered the meeting recommending the same budget that the school board passed April 26 on a preliminary basis. It features 350 …

The “McCall Ambassadors” are two members of each first grade class that have shown outstanding leadership qualities, academic excellence and social expertise. These young men and women are chosen to represent the school and can often be seen welcoming parents and other important guests to the school, part of their official function as ambassadors. School counselor Missy Bradley-Johnson and Principal Thomas Farrell got a hand from Mayor Tommy Allegood in handing out the individualized medals and certificates awarded to each child as he or she…

Ron Newcomb, the new president of Chattahoochee Technical College, was introduced to and welcomed by members of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce at a reception Thursday evening in Marietta. The reception held at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre was the fifth of several set in each of the six counties served by the school. The last reception will be held in Canton in June. Attendees at the event included state legislators, and community and business leaders around Cobb County. Building a strong workforce for communities in Georgia is Chatt Tech's No. 1 priority, Newcomb told Acworth Patch in February, after he was named the college's new president. Hi, my name is Hemi. I'm a precious 2-year-old, 6-pound boy who came into the shelter as a stray with ID on May 10. My family did not come for me when they were contacted. They did take very good care of me—I have a beautiful coat, and I'm already neutered and heartworm negative. I know to sit when told and walk on a leash. I would roll right over for a belly rub. You can find me in cage 318 at the Cobb County Animal Shelter, located at 1060 Al Bishop Dr., Marietta. Call 770-499-4136 for more information. Please reference my ID number, 543410, and not my name.
