Who’s NOT planning a BBQ this weekend? If the weather holds and you’ve got propane or charcoal, chances are, you’re grilling something with your friends and family. Here, new ideas for keeping your costs down. Sponsored by Home Depot.
Here at Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbeque experts and uncovered some really good ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party. 1. Start with a marinade. This means planning ahead -- say, Friday. But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of Barbeque America on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled ribeye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbeque grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but avoid cola which is so acidic it can turn meat into a soggy mess.” Try…

North Cobb High School's ceremony at the Kennesaw State University Convocation Center is one of them.
Graduations begin Thursday, and the Cobb County School District wants to make sure that family and friends who can't attend the ceremonies don't miss out. With the exception of McEachern in Powder Springs and Allatoona in Acworth, whose graduations will be held outdoors, most of the ceremonies will be streamed live. North Cobb High School's ceremony at the Kennesaw State University Convocation Center is one of them. View it here at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Here's the schedule for the rest of the county.

He will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Just days before his son's high school graduation, an Acworth man accused of killing his wife at her East Cobb home pleaded guilty to the crime. John Steven Kristofak, 58, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for the December 2012 murder of Donna Kristofak, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. It was the couple's youngest son who heard his mother's scream, ran outside and saw his father drive away from the scene on Tall Pine Drive, according to the MDJ. Harrison Kristofak, now 18, was also the person who called 911. When police arrived at the home around noon Dec. 22, 48-year-old Donna Kristofak was unresponsive. She later died at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Though a murder warrant at the time indicated that Donna Kristofak was …

It's called, “The Adventures of Queenie and Harley: The day I met my best friend.”
The latest inspections by Cobb Public Health include visits to Cazadores Mexican Restaurant, Gorin's Cafe, Frank's Cajun and Soul Kitchen, Over Look Cafe, Pollo Tropical and Shillings on the Square.
Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from a best possible score of 100. A sample inspection form is attached. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points. Letter grades assigned are A for totals of 100 to 90 points, B for 89 to 80, C for 79 to 70, and U for less than 70.
Marchex Institute says Ohio residents swear the most on consumer calls but Georgians are among the most courteous.
We're the Peach State—because we're so sweet...mostly. That's the finding from the Marchex Institute, a data analysis firm. Just in time for National Etiquette Week, Marchex released findings on the most courteous and the least courteous states in the nation. The Institute examined more than 600,000 phone calls from the past 12 months. You know, the calls that "may be recorded for training purposes." The calls were placed by consumers to businesses across 30 industries, including cable and satellite companies, auto dealerships, pest control centers and more, says Marchex. The Institute scanned for curse words from A to F to S (use your imagination). Analysts then linked the frequency of those words with all 50 states. Georgians …
Another Allatoona student was recognized, too.
Allatoona High School students took two of the three top spots in the Taste of Kennesaw, a competition that inspires students to pursue their dreams of becoming a chef or owning their own restaurant. First place went to Deja Simon, who plans to attend Fort Valley State University in the fall. Simon won a $3,000 scholarship. Dallas Chapman, who will attend the Art Institute of Atlanta, was the third place winner. Zachary Burris of Kennesaw Mountain High School received second place honors, and plans to enlist in the Army as a food specialist. Carrabba's Italian Grill donated $2,000 toward Simon's scholarship. Kennesaw Business Association gave $1,000. Tell us what you think in the comments, share your photos and videos, and don’t miss any …

It will cover expenses associated with the 49th Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, MO.
A local student won't have to worry about he'll get to a national competition next month. That's because California Dreaming's Greg Carter and former Kennesaw Business Association president Debbie Underkofler recently presented North Cobb High School student Daniel Kinslow with a check for $2,000 to cover his expenses for the trip. The KBA reached out to the culinary arts instructor at North Cobb, and offered to help support Kinslow, who will represent Cobb at the 49th Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, MO. Kinslow earned a spot in the national competition by winning first place in the culinary arts division of the Georgia SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference, which was held March 21 to 23. The…
