The Georgia income tax could one day become a thing of the past. Several state senators have signed on to sponsor Senate Resolution 8, a proposal that would create a constitutional amendment to phase out the state’s income tax. If the resolution is approved by the General Assembly and signed by the governor, Georgia voters would see this question on a future ballot: “Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to limit the authority of the General Assembly to impose an income tax and to phase out existing income taxes?” A copy of the resolution is attached to this article in PDF form. Timothy Austin will be laid to rest on Saturday in Marietta.
Funeral services are set for the Woodstock man who was struck and killed on Wednesday after his bicycle entered the roadway in Acworth. The funeral for Timothy Austin, 42, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. Interment will follow at the Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Austin was cycling southbound on the sidewalk along Bells Ferry Road near the Cherokee-Cobb County border around 4 p.m. on Wednesday when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the bicycle and entered oncoming traffic, said Cobb County Police Department Spokesman Mike Bowman. Ann Rutherford, who died recently at 94, had come to many Cobb events held for the book and movie, where she would stay "until the very last person had left the building."
Many Georgians are mourning the recent passing of 94-year-old Ann Rutherford, who played Scarlett's little sister Carreen O'Hara in the 1939 film Gone With the Wind. Last summer, for the 75th anniversary of the publication of Margaret Mitchell's book, Marietta's Gone With the Wind Museum hosted many events, including a film tribute of Rutherford. She was in attendance as she has been for many of the museum's annual events every year since 2007—except for this May due to her declining health from heart problems. "We were very saddened to hear that Ann Rutherford has passed away," said Connie Sutherland, the museum's director. Visitation will be held for Zach Gamble at the Woodstock Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral arrangements have been made for the Acworth Marine who died Sunday afternoon from head trauma suffered in Smyrna. The Woodstock Funeral Home will hold visitation for Zach Gamble, 34, Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. for friends and family. The funeral will be held at Woodstock First Baptist at 2 p.m. Thursday, and burial will follow at Rolling Hills Memory Gardens in Acworth next to Gamble's father, James. Gamble's body will lie in state an hour before Thursday's service so people can pay their respects. The other major thing to mention is that our unemployment problem is mainly due to people being trained in the wrong areas. We have to use E-splost to solve that problem, since the state is so underfunded as it is (and mismanaging the schools so much) that they can't afford important investments like that. The unemployment problem is due to lack fo investments, not taxes.   more ›
