The 2013 Acworth Art Fest begins one month from today, and volunteers are needed. Lots of them. Two weeks into the process of signing up volunteers for the art fest, organizers say 141 shifts still need to be filled. There's an incentive. Volunteers are automatically entered into a drawing for $25 shopping spree gift certificates. The certificates can be redeemed at the artist market during the art fest. After a successful start in 2012, the Acworth Art Fest is returning for a second year to the city's historic downtown. Last year, a crowd of about 40,000 celebrated Acworth's first large-scale art fest, organizer Frances Schube said. Organizers anticipate greater success at this year's art fest, scheduled for April 13 and 14. Students from McCall Primary School were recognized as exemplary learners and leaders.
Over two dozen first graders from McCall Primary School were recognized for their excellent skills in and out of the classroom during the meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Thursday evening. The “McCall Ambassadors” are two members of each first grade class that have shown outstanding leadership qualities, academic excellence and social expertise. These young men and women are chosen to represent the school and can often be seen welcoming parents and other important guests to the school, part of their official function as ambassadors. Thousands from Acworth and surrounding communities flocked to downtown over the weekend for Acworth's first art fest.
Historic Downtown Acworth welcomed thousands of residents from the metro Atlanta area who came to celebrate the city's first large-scale art fest. More than 120 artists showcased their work, and the family-friendly event also had activities for kids and parents. The festival was organized by Splash Festivals in partnership with the city of Acworth.

All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, free coffee, water and snacks all day Saturday and Sunday. Acworth Art Fest is just three weeks away. More than 120 artists with colorful and whimsical handmade art will have everything from jewelry, furniture, textiles, paintings and yard art to glass creations and funky sculpture. There are 60 volunteer positions to fill by April 4. Half of these are during the Art Fest set-up shift 4:30-9 a.m., Saturday, April 14.
