Acworth Classes Begin Next Week

You can register for them now.

The Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department's community classes will begin Tuesday. To register for the courses, go to www.acworthparksandrecreation.org. Once on the site, look for the "Community Classes" section at the bottom of the homepage and select your preferred class. Here are some of this year's offerings: Floral Design Class  Come out and join us for this exciting and unique class! Participants will create a beautiful floral arrangement for their home, office, or as a gift for a loved one. Acworth to Host Cobb Outdoor Festival

Families can enjoy free outdoor festival in Acworth this weekend.

Families are invited to celebrate the outdoor activities available in Cobb at the inaugural Outdoor Festival hosted by Cobb Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. The festival will be held noon-2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at Allatoona Creek Park located at 5690 Old Stilesboro Road in Acworth. There will be hunting demonstrations, archery shooting, bicycle activities, fishing demonstrations and birding activities. Last Chance: Register for Love the Lake Parade

The deadline to submit applications has been extended to Monday, Aug. 27.

The City of Acworth will be hosting the Love the Lake Parade on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 9:30 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Acworth. This year’s theme is Go for the Gold: Celebrating the Olympics. This is the chance for your company, organization, school or civic group to get creative and show off a specialty vehicle, mascot, or float to compete for prizes. First place will be awarded $275, and there will be $150 for second place and $75 for third for float entries that reflect this year's theme. Register for Acworth Youth Basketball

Acworth Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball registration is now open for children between the ages of 5 and 14.

TAcworth Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball registration is now underway. The league is open to all children between the ages of 5 and 14. The children are divided into three groups: The co-ed division fee is $105 for City of Acworth residents and $125 for non-residents. All other divisions cost $155 for City of Acworth residents and $175 for non-residents Register before Sept. 14 and receive a $10 discount. All divisions are open until the maximum number of participants per age group has been met. Registrations received after 5 p.m. on Oct. 22 will be charged a $20 late registration fee. Fees include team jerseys and shorts. Skills assessments will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21. Practices start the week of Nov. 5. Games…

Acworth Baseball Starts Fall Registration

Online registration for Acworth Baseball Association's 2012 Fall Season is underway.

The Acworth Baseball Association is currently accepting online registrations for the 2012 Fall Baseball Season. The program provides a safe, challenging and fun instructional and competitive baseball experience for boys and girls ages 4 to 18. The association promotes the ideas of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty and a sense of teamwork among children so that they may become strong, healthy, well adjusted members of the community.  Click here to register online. There will also be pnsite registrations at the Acworth Sports Complex on Saturday, Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. Fees vary depending on the age of the participant.

Expanding Horizons Funded Through 2013

Another contribution has been made to help send Acworth youths on educational field trips.

With a generous donation from an anonymous benefactor, the Expanding Horizons Program began in 2006, coordinated by the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department. Nearly seven years later, the program continues to thrive as it recently received another contribution to help fund the program through 2013. Expanding Horizons takes local youths on educational field trips throughout the school year that they may not otherwise be able to afford. The program covers all cost related to transportation, food, and admission into the various sites. In recent years, Acworth youths participating in the program have visited Chattanooga, Cape Canaveral, St. Louis, Kansas City and New York City, and this year, Expanding Horizons plans to take a small group …

Camp Acworth Offers Summer Fun

Looking for fun and safe activities for your child? Check out this eight-week summer camp for Acworth kids.

Camp Acworth organized by the City of Acworth Parks and Recreation Department provides a safe and active environment for children to enjoy their summer. Campers enjoy various outdoor activities including swimming, canoeing, hiking, archery, arts and crafts and team sport activities. Campers will also take a field trip each week to exciting places like Stars and Strikes, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Zoo Atlanta and the Georgia Aquarium. Camp Acworth is for children ages 6–11, and there is also a Middle School Camp for ages 11–14. The camp consists of eight, one week sessions beginning in June and concluding at the end of July.
