Allatoona Makes State's AP Honor Roll

Students tested in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses.

Allatoona High this week was named a 2013 Georgia Advanced Placement Honor School. The Acworth school was designated an AP Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) School because students tested in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses. Three other North and West Cobb-area high schools received multiple honors. Like Allatoona, Harrison, Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb were designated AP STEM Schools. But they were also named AP STEM Achievement Schools because at least 40 percent of the exam scores on AP math and science exams were at least a three. Allatoona Wrestlers Finish in Top 5 at State

The competition was held Saturday in Macon.

Two Allatoona High wrestlers had strong finishes at Saturday's Class AAAAA state wrestling championship in Macon. As a team, Allatoona was the 18th-best team of the day. Individually, two Bucs finished in the top five. Ethan Benedict finished fifth in the 113-pound weight class and Will Kemp was earned fifth place in the 152-pound division. Elsewhere in North Cobb, Kennesaw Mountain High's wrestling team finished in the top 10 and had one individual champion in Class AAAAAA. Justan Rivera took top honors in the 182-pound weight class, his second consecutive individual state title. He was the 170-pound state champion in 2012. Two Bucs to Play at Point University

The school is in West Point, Ga.

Two Allatoona High football players will wear the same jerseys in college, too. TJ Herron and Tommy Davis have accepted scholarships to play football at Point University in West Point, Ga., Allatoona athletics director Benji Morrell wrote in an email to Acworth Patch. Herron and Davis join at least four other Allatoona student-athletes who signed scholarships to play various sports at colleges and universities on National Signing Day, which was Feb. 6. Allatoona Graduation Scheduled for May 24

The Cobb County School District has released the schedule of graduations for the county's 16 high schools.

The Allatoona High Class of 2013 will graduate at 9 a.m. May 24 at Allatoona Stadium, according to the Cobb County School District.  The school system has released the schedule of graduations for the county's 16 high schools. Elsewhere in North Cobb, the KSU Convocation Center will host the commencement exercises for North Cobb High at 2:30 p.m. May 24.    Click here for the complete schedule.
